The arrival of March is welcomed by many people in Ryedale.
It’s lambing time.
The daffodils should be showing.
The nights are getting lighter … and the month also marks the welcome return of Malton Monthly Food Market on Saturday 14th March.
The monthly foodie extravaganza starts in March and last until November each year and are sister events to the annual Malton Food Lovers Festival, which takes place in May.
The monthly events have a rest in January and February and has a robust return with around 35 artisan food stalls ready for the spring.
The markets take place every second Saturday in the month and includes indoor stalls inside the Milton Rooms and outdoor stalls in the central Market Place.
The monthly event included free entry, free parking and has set a standard in local food markets in Yorkshire.
Now, we all know Malton is famous for a few things: racehorses; a Roman past and its links to agriculture.
Yet in more modern times, Malton has transformed from one of many market towns in Yorkshire to one that shouts loudly and proudly about its foodie heritage. This hasn’t happened overnight and has gained momentum in the last decade as our food provenance has become more important to us.
Since 2010 the developments have included the Talbot Hotel, Talbot Yard Food Court, various artisan food shops in the town centre along with the monthly markets and annual food festival.
The town includes butchers, fishmongers, bakeries, cafes and more … the monthly food markets provide a foodie experience that adds to the businesses that trade year-round in Malton.
The town centre becomes a hub of activity and the markets trade from 9am to 3pm so there’s plenty of time to browse, taste and buy!
Other foodie events take place throughout the year with the monthly market dates being: 11th April, 9th May, 13th June, 11th July, 8th August, 12th September, 10th October and 14th November.
Other treats that Malton offers include the Malton Food Tour, a Gin Tour, and other foodie delights.
We do say to our customers, be prepared for busy days during the foodie events. Our drivers know when these dates take place and will get you from A to B easily.
